Waste is hazardous when it contains or has properties that are harmful to human health or the environment. Over 5 million tonnes of hazardous waste is produced every year in the UK of which some is buried in landfill sites. The European Union Legislation introduced in July 2004 means that hazardous waste can no longer be disposed of along side non hazardous waste. The new directive has subsequently dramatically reduced the number of sites across the UK that is licensed to accept hazardous waste types.
Thompson's are experts in dealing with hazardous waste and work closely with the Environment Agency to achieve this. Thompson's give free advice on the correct procedures and documentation for the correct and safe disposal of hazardous waste.
